Kevin Sinfield has completed his sixth 7in7 challenge, finishing the final stretch at Headingley Stadium after running seven ultramarathons in seven days to raise money for the motor neurone disease (MND) community.
The former Leeds Rhinos captain has spent the past week running across the country, from Suffolk to Swansea, through Ireland, Cumbria and back across Yorkshire, all in honour of his close friend and teammate Rob Burrow, who died from MND last year.
Despite heavy rain sweeping across the stadium, crowds packed into Headingley to welcome Sinfield home.
Many supporters described him as a “true inspiration” as they watched him cross the line, alongside hundreds of runners dressed as Santa taking part in this year’s Leeds Santa Dash.
This year’s challenge has surpassed fundraising expectations. Sinfield and his team have raised more than £1 million, with donations supporting MND charities and the newly opened Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease.
Speaking after finishing, Sinfield revealed that plans for next year’s 7in7 challenge are already in motion:
"We started planning next year's 7in7 challenge before we even started this one."
He thanked supporters across the country for their encouragement, saying the atmosphere at Headingley and the generosity shown throughout the week had been “remarkable.”
The 7in7 challenge, launched in honour of Rob Burrow, has now raised over ÂŁ10 million across its six years, helping fund care, research, and support for those living with MND.
