Police launch investigation after explosion in Burntwood leaves man in critical condition

Police and fire crews are beginning an investigation after an explosion in Burntwood left a man in a critical condition.

It happened at a block of flats on Chase Road, with five flats being evacuated.

Glass and debris litter the floor beneath the flat, which sits above a row of shops.

The shops and car park are closed as forensic teams investigate the scene, with a police cordon around the area.

Staffordshire Police were called to the area at 9:10pm last night (Oct 28th) after reports of an explosion.

No one else was injured and five other flats have been evacuated.

Police are working with Staffordshire's Fire and Rescue Service to understand what might have caused the explosion.
