Morrisons offers free sanitary products to those in need
The "Ask for Sandy" scheme has been praised on Twitter
Morrisons supermarket chain is the latest to join the fight against period poverty after launching a "discreet" service designed to provide free period products for those in need.
The "Ask for Sandy" initiative allows shoppers to go to the front desk of some Morrisons stores and ask for a package left by Sandy.
Staff will then provide an envelope containing a sanitary product inside.
Morrisons has been praised for their "brilliant" initiative after a shopper spotted a notice in store explaining "Ask for Sandy".
The notice, which has since gone viral on Twitter, reads: "Please don't feel shy. If you are in need or struggling for sanitary products go to our Customer Service Kiosk... and ask for a package that SANDY has left for you.
"You will be given a FREE discreet envelope with what you need, no questions asked.

Although the scheme is not currently available everywhere, Morrisons is apparently considering launching "Ask for Sandy" nationwide, with some stores having already taken inspiration and introduced it themselves.
Elsewhere, Lidl Ireland has also launched an initiative to tackle period poverty, offering customers one coupon per month to claim a free box of sanitary products.
A tweet by Lidl Ireland read: "We're proud to announce that we are the first major retailer in the world to offer free period products in stores nationwide to combat period poverty in partnership with Homeless Period Ireland."
