Dame Vera Lynn has sadly died, aged 103

Dame Vera Lynn has sadly passed away at the amazing age of 103, her family have confirmed.
Releasing a short statement, the message reads, “The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers at the age of 103.
“Dame Vera Lynn, who lived in Ditchling, East Sussex, passed away earlier today, 18 June 2020, surrounded by her close family.”
Dame Vera, who was born in Essex on 20th March 1917, was best known for hits like 'We'll Meet Again', 'Land of Hope and Glory', and 'The White Cliffs of Dover', all of which she performed for troops to keep morale up during World War Two.
Back in 2009, at the amazing age of 92, Dame Vera made history when she became the oldest living artist to top the UK Album Chart, before releasing a compilation album called 'Vera Lynn 100' in 2017.
Following the sad news, tributes poured in for Dame Vera online, with many taking to Twitter to pay their respects.
One user wrote, 'RIP the magnificent Dame Vera Lynn. Still marvellous at 103. Thank you for giving our country hope by telling us that we'd meet again during our darkest hour.'
Another added, 'Rest in peace Dame Vera Lynn. What a wonderful lady', with another writing, 'I thought Dame Vera Lynn would live forever. Just heard the sad news that she has left us. What a voice, and such an important person during a time of crisis. Very sad news. RIP' (sic)
