Boy, 13, admits death by dangerous driving after Sheffield woman dies

A 13-year-old boy has admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of grandmother Marcia Grant by running her over with her own car at Sheffield Crown Court.
60-year-old Marcia Grant died in April when she was hit by a car outside her home on Hemper Lane.
Emergency services were called at 7.10pm on April 5th to reports of a collision between a car and a woman in the Greenhill area of the city.
A South Yorkshire Police Spokesperson said:
"Today (Tuesday 3 October), a 13-year-old boy has pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to death by dangerous driving following the death of Marcia Grant earlier this year.
"On Wednesday 5 April, officers were called to Hemper Lane in the Greenhill area of Sheffield, following a report of a collision between a car and a woman.
"We attended alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Sadly, Marcia was found with critical injuries and died at the scene."
Marcia’s family paid tribute to her following her death, saying in a statement at the time:
“Marcia was a warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a pillar of her community. Her loss has already sent shockwaves through all who knew her or was lucky enough to be included in her orbit.”
The boy, who was 12 years old at the time, was arrested nearby and charged with murder. Detectives put together a thorough case file which they presented to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS’ final decision was to bring a charge of death by dangerous driving against the boy, in place of the murder charge.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell said:
“Since Marcia’s death, my thoughts have been with her family and friends. They have lost a loved one under the most tragic of circumstances and will have to live with the heartbreaking consequences of the events of that evening for the rest of their lives. We continue to support her loved ones, and they wish for their privacy to continue to be respected.”
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will next appear before Sheffield Crown Court on 1 December for sentencing.
Marcia’s family will not be making further comment at this time.
