Utterly unattractive Doric words and their meanings

Prompted by a recent poll that hailed the Scottish accent as the most attractive in the British Isles, Jeff thought it would be interesting to compile a list of the least attractive words in the Doric language.

You didn’t disappoint with your suggestions to the Breakfast Show!

Here are 7 of the best suggestions. Read them while imagining whispering them into the ear of your beloved. Hey, give it a go!

The List

Horny Golloch

Doesn't this one just sound like something it's not!? You certainly don't want to be getting the wrong end of this stick, just imagine the disappointment of an outsider invited to see a Horny Golloch - only to find themselves looking at a forkytail scurrying across the path. Horny Golloch, an earwig.

Dookers

Fit fine dookers! Nothing sounds sexier than pulling on your new dookers before parading out on front of the apple of your eye, or does it!? Dookers, really? For those not in the know, Dookers; Swimming costume.

Oxters

Minky oxters! The Oxter, your armpit. While the humble armpit couldn't be considered ordinarily attractive it's surely less so when called an Oxter. Just imagine, for a second, leaning and whispering Oxter into the ear of your bae.

Trap

Gies a trap! You're winning on a night out if you're offered a trap. Known elsewhere as a snog. It's put a look of fear on the face of many an outsider who thought they were about to be locked up as a good-looking local rushed towards to trap them.

Dowp

Aats a fine dowp! Many a dowp has been pinched over the years, although the idea of a peachy bum is surely more attractive sounding than a dowp!

Feil

Act feel! In English, this one would need no explanation, fancy a feel? However here in the North-east it's merely more than the primary way to call out a dafty. Feil? Oh, yes… I agree!

Chuntie

I'm aff tae the Chuntie! The line is sure to build that romantic tension. The chuntie, the old Chamber pot! Pillow talk essentials in the North-east.
