Tierney taking added attention in his stride

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has revealed he has adapted to his new-found fame by simply not thinking about it.

The 18-year-old has shot to prominence this season as one of Ronny Deila's most consistent and impressive performers and made his full Scotland debut in March.

Tierney was this week named on the shortlist for the PFA Scotland young player award and could be a title-winner this Saturday if Celtic beat Hearts and Motherwell get a result against Aberdeen.

But the defender tends to let other people talk about his remarkable rise - although he has got used to added attention from fans.

"I don't mind that at all,'' he said.

"That's kind of what you want when you're a wee guy, to play for Celtic and be known. But apart from that, what I do outside of training, nothing has changed.

"I am just grateful to be in the position I am. I thought I'd be in and out and playing a couple of cup games but the manager has shown great faith in me and I'm grateful for that.

"You've seen the games he has put me in, European games, big league games, it's credit to him for trusting a young boy.

"He'll not speak too much to me because when someone speaks to you too much you start to feel pressure and nervous. He just lets me get on with it and, if he feels he needs to speak to me, he will.

"You can't take too much in with that, pressure-wise and what people around you are saying. I just wake up and go and play football.''
