Scotland to face Czech Republic in March

Scotland will play their first match since their failed Euro 2016 campaign when they take on the Czech Republic in an international friendly on March 24, the Czech FA have announced.

Gordon Strachan's team saw their dreams of a place at next summer's finals in France killed off when Ireland beat them to third spot in qualifying group D.

But the national team boss is now setting his sights on the 2018 World Cup in Russia and will use the fixture with the Czechs to assess how his squad is shaping up ahead of the qualifying campaign, which starts in September.

A venue for the match has yet to be confirmed. Scotland last faced the Czechs during qualification for Euro 2012, with Craig Levein famously fielding a 4-6-0 formation in Prague during a 1-0 defeat.

A controversial 2-2 draw followed at Hampden after referee Kevin Blom handed the Czechs a disputed last-minute penalty.

Czech Republic are ranked 26th in the FIFA rankings and will take on Spain, Turkey and Croatia at Euro 2016.

The Scots will take on England, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta in their World Cup qualifying group.
