Partick boss Alan Archibald delighted with display of midfielder Chris Erskine

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald heaped praise on midfielder Chris Erskine for his influential performance in their 2-0 Betfred Cup win over Queen's Park.

The playmaker set the hosts on the road to victory over their neighbours with a looping header before setting up Liam Lindsay for a late second as they made it four wins from four to comfortably progress to the last 16.

He was at the heart of most of Thistle's attacking impetus and highlighted his worth to his boss.

Archibald said: ''He brings an urgency and a tempo and I thought that came from Chris today. We know what we get from him. He brings a drive, so we are delighted with his creativity.''

Erskine rejoined Thistle in the summer from Dundee United for a third spell at Firhill. The 29-year-old has always been a fan favourite following his first spell at the club, when he played a starring role in helping the Jags secure promotion to the top flight from the then first division.

Archibald believes the player is a good fit for the club and thinks Firhill is where he will play his best football.

The Thistle boss said: ''I think here does suit him. We know what we get with him and he knows what he'll get with us. He will have his good days and his bad days, but we have to make sure we play the team around him and get the best out of him.''
