Glasgow duo pen new deals

Glasgow Warriors have signed wingers Rory Hughes and Junior Bulumakau on new one-year deals to keep them at Scotstoun until at least May 2017.

Hughes, 23, made his Warriors debut against Connacht at Scotstoun in February 2014, and scored against the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in January.

Last summer he was capped by Scotland in a Rugby World Cup warm-up match against Italy and was part of the Glasgow squad which won the Melrose 7s in 2014 and 2015.

Hughes has also played for Scotland 7s and was involved at the recent Hong Kong 7s in the Sevens World Series.

He told glasgowwarriors.org: "I feel I've made real progress this season and to play as much as I have done has been really pleasing.

"Scoring my first try for the club against the Ospreys was great and I enjoyed playing in some big games against Munster and Ulster away from home.

"I'm learning all the time and I'm looking forward to next season and continuing my development at Scotstoun."

Bulumakau, who signed from the British Army on a one-year deal in August 2015, was born in Fiji and moved to Scotland at the age of 10 with his parents.

This season he has played for Scotland 7s in the Wellington 7s tournament and featured four times for Glasgow, scoring one try against Newport Gwent Dragons at Scotstoun.

The 25-year-old told glasgowwarriors.org: "I've loved my first year at Glasgow and I want to continue to learn and improve.

"Playing for Scotland 7s was a great experience for me and I'm looking forward to competing for my place in the team next season."

Head coach Gregor Townsend said: "Rory and Junior have earned their new contracts and it's a boost for the club that they will be with us again next season.

"Rory has really progressed over the last 12 months and his hard-working approach has enabled him to play in a number of important games for the club and win a cap for Scotland.

"There is much more to come from him and we are going to have some excellent competition for places on the wings next season.

"Junior came in earlier this season and made some very good contributions during the Rugby World Cup period, with the Munster game being a particular highlight.

"This was Junior's first season as a full professional and he's learned a lot about what it takes to succeed at this level.

"We're looking forward to him using this experience to improve even further next season."
