Defender Miles Addison set for surgery on Thursday - Kilmarnock boss Lee Clark
Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark revealed defender Miles Addison was set for surgery after breaking down in training ahead of their goalless draw with Motherwell at Fir Park.
The centre-back has been struggling with a foot injury after knee and ankle problems earlier this season, and had to shelve his planned comeback.
Scott Boyd and Will Boyle continued in his absence and helped Killie to an important Premiership point, although they were thankful for some poor finishing from their hosts.
Miles has had a setback, unfortunately,'' Clark said.
He trained on Friday and didn't last too long, so he will have surgery on Thursday, I think. We hope to have him back for the cup tie against Hamilton in January. He won't play any time in this hectic month in December.''
Clark was disappointed his side did not build on a lively start. Motherwell belatedly began to pass the ball about and created two glorious chances in the final minute of the first half, but Ross MacLean could not beat Jamie MacDonald and Lionel Ainsowrth sliced wide.
Louis Moult failed to shake off Boyd after being played through 20 minutes into the second half and Motherwell continued to press but Scott McDonald shot just wide from 18 yards.
Clark said: We started well, had some good opportunities and then Motherwell came into the game and caused us one or two problems.
And it was a result that was indicative of what the league is like: very, very tight. It's shown again (on Saturday), with the exception of Rangers winning, everybody else just getting draws.''
Motherwell struggled to support Moult at first with McDonald playing a withdrawn role and manager Mark McGhee felt missed chances were the key issue.
McGhee, who served the first game of a touchline ban in the stand, said: You have got to get that first goal and we made such good chances, a couple towards the end of the first half, a couple second half, and we have got to take one of them to win the game.
The game itself was fairly mediocre. We had people missing, we had people who actually nearly never started.
Both Moult and McDonald nearly never started, they were last-minute declarations. (Chris) Cadden was missing, he has been a big influence lately, (Steven) Hammell was missing and the young lad (David) Ferguson had to play left-back.''
McGhee, who also lost MacLean to an ankle knock at the midway stage, added: Lee Lucas came on but he has not played a game, he has trained for a week. I was thinking of starting him but it would have been unfair, so Scott was asked to play midfield. He did his best, played well at times, but generally we were kind of undermined by the changes that were forced upon us.''
