Clint Hill eager to prove critics wrong at Rangers

Clint Hill insists he will not be joining Rangers to wind-down his career.

The veteran centre-back turns 38 in October but believes he has enough left in his tank to do a job for Mark Warburton's team.

Hill, released by QPR last month, has agreed a one-year deal with the Ibrox club and will become the club's fifth summer signing in the next 24 hours so long as he passes a medical.

But while he knows some fans will look at his age and be unimpressed with his signing, he has vowed to prove he is worthy of a place in Warburton's line-up.

"I'm very mindful of the fact that people will question it," he said as he arrived at Glasgow Airport. "I'm 37, I'm not a big-name signing compared to some of the great players who have played for this club, but I will give everything I've got.

"I've done that over my career at every club I've been to. I think I've proved some people wrong at clubs I've been at as well and I'm very determined to do that here.

"I could have gone other places, maybe gone abroad and maybe chilled out on a beach somewhere with no pressure on me.

"I've always been up for a challenge in my career, and there's certainly nothing bigger than this.

"I feel like a kid, I'm not going to lie to you. I'm ready to go, I'm ready to work and I'm not here for a jolly."

Hill will find a familiar face beside him in the Ibrox dressing room if he does complete his switch following the arrival of Joey Barton earlier this summer, with another former QPR team-mate Niko Krancjar also tipped to make the move to Glasgow.

"Hopefully we will compliment what they already have here,'' Hill said. I'm keen to work with them as well and feel inspired by the young kids at the club."
