SPFL Reserve League returns after two-year shutdown
The league was paused in March 2020 due to the pandemic
The Scottish Professional Football League has confirmed the return of the Reserve League for 2022-23 after it spent over two years in shutdown.
The division was halted during the 2019-20 season due to the pandemic and will now resume on Tuesday, September 6 following discussions with member clubs.
Ten clubs will participate in the Reserve League, although Rangers, Celtic and Hearts will not be involved as their youth sides are taking part in the Lowland League.
Aberdeen are also a notable absence.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster welcomed the return of the league.
"We are pleased to be able to offer our member clubs the opportunity to be able to play SPFL cinch Reserve League football again after the League was originally paused due to the pandemic," he said.
"We would also like to thank our partners at cinch for its support of the SPFL cinch Reserve League and its fantastic ongoing backing of the Scottish game."
The 10 teams participating in the league will be Ayr, Dundee, Dundee United, Hamilton, Hibernian, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Motherwell, Queen of the South and Queen's Park.
Matches are scheduled to take place on Tuesday afternoons.
