The Dons make the trip south to Tynecastle on Saturday with high hopes of another strong league performance.

Away days to Edinburgh are firm fan and player favourites, with the tight stadium providing one of the best atmospheres in the country.

There have been many memorable games between the two sides but one which will always be remembered was that of the 6th of May 2007, a game where a goal had the power to see Aberdeen back in Europe for the first time in years.

The year was 2007, European football beckoned. Just one point could just about secure a place in the UEFA Cup.

What took place that afternoon was one of the most memorable performances at a packed Tynecastle.

Aberdeen didn’t qualify for Europe as a result of the game but a stunning 90th-minute goal from midfielder Barry Nicholson kept the league advantage going into the final two games of the season against Celtic and then Rangers.

Ally Begg caught up with the former Don to talk about that game.

Barry, who was already carrying a yellow from an altercation with Hearts Laryes Kingston, was shown a second yellow in the aftermath of his goal for removing his shirt during the celebration – and who could have blamed him!

WATCH THAT GOAL

Aberdeen’s 1-1 draw with the Edinburgh side kept the European dream alive and despite a defeat to Celtic in the following game, an end of season victory over Rangers secured the dream.

What followed was a European adventure to the final 32 of the EUFA Cup including memorable nights against DNIPRO and Bayern Munich.

Aberdeen play Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, kick-off is at 3pm.
