Four teenagers have been charged over the theft of a car and a series of break-ins in the north east.

The males, all aged 17 and a 16-year-old female are accused of stealing a black Vauxhall Zafira in Aberdeen, before committing a series of crimes in the Aberdeen and Alford areas.

The youths were eventually apprehended in Aberdeenshire yesterday.

Chief Inspector Richard Craig said: "I would like to thank members of the community for their help with this inquiry, which has involved officers from the Marr and Garioch Community Policing Team based in Huntly and Inverurie, along with Specialist Roads Policing and CID resources.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to remind the public to always be vigilant when it comes to their valuables, and to ensure their homes, garages and vehicles are always locked and secure.

"Please reduce your chances of becoming a victim by using good quality locks and ensuring your house keys and car keys are always out of sight. With the lighter nights, I would urge people to always ensure you secure your doors - front and back - even if you are at home, or in the garden.

"To report any suspicious behaviour, or if you have any concerns, please contact police on 101 or if you wish to remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
