"World's First" hospitality track and trace system launches in Aberdeen
Last updated 9th Dec 2020
Business owners and Aberdeen City Council have come together to develop the 4entry app which is thought to be the first of its kind.
The pioneering technology will track customers on a night out and limit the number of venues they can visit - using a personalised QR code.
The app has the ability to stop people from entering a venue if they have visited too many, travelled from another tier or tested positive for Covid-19.
Council Co-Leader Jenny Laing said: "We want to make sure our businesses can stay open and function and our economy keeps going and also that residents can get out there and enjoy themselves, but we want to do that in a safe environment.
"I think today's app that's being launched will help us to do that and I encourage both businesses and residents to sign up for it."
This app launch follows on after Aberdeen's local lockdown earlier this year which was thought to be caused by a pub crawl.
Tony Cochrane, owner of Club Tropicana, said: “For participating hospitality venues this means no time-consuming sign ins and guaranteed accurate genuine information.
"For the public, this is a simple one time sign up giving immediate quick simple entry to not just bars and restaurants but to cafes, gyms and any business in the city which requires track and trace.
"The system will also serve the NHS as a valuable tool as we will provide full access to track and trace if required for instant information and can even pinpoint where someone was seated and every hospitality venue visited for a 21 day period.”
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired said: “This is a simple and responsible way to navigate through the restrictions we are currently under and we would encourage both venues and the public to sign up to this industry leading scheme. “
