A construction worker at Aberdeen’s Marischal Square development is facing disciplinary action after crashing a forklift truck into a fence.

It happened last Monday, just days after another member of staff suffered a broken leg and fractured ribs at the site on the 3rd February.

That accident is being investigated.

Responding to the incident on the 6th February, a spokesman for the developer Morgan Sindall said: “a forklift truck collided with fencing, within the site boundary. There was no crane involved, nor any cars or members of the public.

“The worker operating the forklift did so without the proper certification and the appropriate disciplinary proceedings have been initiated. We operate a zero tolerance approach to unauthorised use of machinery across all of our sites. Safety is our number one priority and while incidents like this are extremely rare, they are completely unacceptable.”

The £107m project is due to open this summer,

Last week, Northsound learned just 10% of the office space at the development has been leased.
