Woman killed on notorious road

a woman's died in a road accident on the A952 near the Toll of Birness.

A man has also been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

A silver Vauxhall Corsa and a white Volvo XC90 hit each other at 7.35am.

The Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene.

The road will be closed to let police investigate.

Sergeant Rob Warnock, from Aberdeenshire and Moray's Road Policing Unit said: "Sadly I can confirm that a woman has died as a result of the two vehicle collision on the A952 at the Toll of Birness this morning.

"The road would have been busy with traffic at the time and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who witnessed the collision to call us on 101."

It's one of the North East's most notorious accident blackspots.

A man was killed in a crash on that stretch of road just two months ago.
