Residents in Aberdeenshire are being advised to keep their house widows closed after wildfire broke out in Banff this morning.

The advise comes from the fire service who fear people's homes could be filled with smoke if windows are left open.

Fire crews were alerted about the blaze at the Banff Bridge just after 2am today.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:

"We were alerted at 2.05am on Monday 16 May to reports of an outdoor fire at the A98 at Banff Bridge, Aberdeenshire.

"At its height a fire involving grass and gorse was spread across 600x200m.

"Five fire appliances and other specialist vehicles remain at the scene.

"Road closures are in place and we would advise local residents to close windows in their homes due to levels of smoke."
