Ground's been broken on on phase 1 of Aberdeen Football Club's multimillion pound blueprint for a community sports hub and stadium.

The first spades were put in the ground at Kingsford near Westhill on the £10m complex which will feature a training pavilion, groundsman’s accommodation, three professional training pitches, two 3G pitches and two grass pitches, the latter being mainly for use by AFC's Community Trust.

The club has promised to appoint local firms wherever possible. Building is due to get underway in October, with completion scheduled for Summer 2019.

Phase 2 will see the construction of a ÂŁ40m stadium - that's set to be open for season 2021/22.
