Police in Aberdeen have released CCTV footage in a bid to trace a man in connection with a serious sexual assault in the city centre.

Police in Aberdeen have released CCTV footage in a bid to trace a man in connection with a serious sexual assault in the city centre.

The attack happened in Union Terrace Gardens on January 28th. A 21-year-old woman was left injured as a result.

Police are appealing to the person in the CCTV image or anyone who recognises them to come forward as they may be able to assist officers with enquiries.

The investigation into the incident is being carried out by a team of specialist-trained officers from Police Scotland's National Units, supported by local officers.

Detective Inspector Sheila McDerment, said: "We have a number of lines of enquiry which we are following up. We are releasing this CCTV in the hope that someone may recognise the person or themselves and get in touch. We would still like to encourage anyone who was in the area of Union Terrace Gardens between 3am and 4am on Thursday 28 January, who may have seen something of concern, to contact us.
