A former oil manager says he has applied for "around 700" jobs since being made redundant from his job in oil and gas.

Rick Steen, 39, from Aberdeen used to work as a Customer Support manager, but was told he would be paid off back in January.

He says he has been to a number of job interviews, including offers for working in supermarkets for minimum wage, but he has had no luck.

Rick says that a number of jobs he has applied for online turn out to be misrepresented, and are later filled internally.

With two thirds of companies laying off staff since the North Sea slump, his story is not uncommon.

He says that he, like many others, had limited savings when the downturn hit.
