A pensioner has died after being knocked down in Aberdeen.

It happened just before lunchtime.

Our senior reporter Bryan Rutherford said: "Around 11:40am emergency services raced to St. Machar Drive, just at the roundabout with King Street.

"A woman had been knocked down by a lorry.

"The police have confirmed she was in her 80s, and died in the crash.

"Members of the public rushed to help.

"They're being thanked for their efforts in what police are describing as 'upsetting' circumstances.

"If you were in the are and saw what happened, you're being asked to contact Police Scotland."

Roads Policing Sergeant Scott Deans told Northsound News: "Our thoughts are with this woman’s family and friends at this very sad and tragic time.

"I know some members of the public tried to help at the scene which would have been upsetting, and I would like to thank them for their efforts.

"An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of this incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened but has not yet spoken to the Police to please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference number 1256 of Sep 10.

"Road closures have been and still are in place at St Machar Drive and at King Street heading towards Bridge of Don. I would like to thank motorists for their patience while diversions have been put in place.
