Almost a million pounds worth of drugs have been seized by police in the North East this year.

That includes more than £216,000 worth of heroin.

The figures have been released in a report about organised crime by the local Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson for Aberdeen City Councillors.

It also reveals that 200 arrests have been made in connection with gangs since April 2015.

And there's been a substantial rise in the number of heroin and cocaine offences recorded since last year.

The police claim they have significantly disrupted the activities of 11 organised crime groups in that time.
