VIDEO: Toddler Who Opened Medicine Bottle Has Lucky Escape
Two - year old Kian from Kilmarnock gave mum Claire Stirling a scare last week when he managed to climb onto a high unit, reach a bottle of Calpol, open it and drink the contents.
The tot was rushed to hospital where he was given blood tests to see how much paracetamol was in his system - luckily he made a full recovery.
Mum Claire couldn't understand how he got the bottle open and wondered if she had left it without the lid on, but when she gave another bottle to Kian he managed to get it open aswell.
She contacted Johnson and Johnson - the makers of Calpol who told her the bottles were not "Childproof" but "Child-Resistant" and no such company has yet developed a reliable child-proof closure.
They also said the aim of a child-resistant closure is to resist a child's attempts to access the product during periods of normal supervision by an adult but they cannot be expected to withstand prolonged attempts by youngsters and advised parents to keep bottles out of reach.
Watch how quickly Kian can take the lid off the bottle...
