Scotrail's promising train travel will be revolutionised as they unveil the first of a new fleet of electric Class 385's.

The train, which is designed by Hitachi, will start night testing before around 24 will be rolled out in autumn 2017 if all goes to plan.

The company says it is based on pioneering Japanese engineering and inspired by the famous 'Shinkansen' bullet train.

They are lighter, because they are built with aluminium and without heavy Diesel engines, which means they can accelerate faster and offer the potential for shorter journey times.

The first trains will be introduced on the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk High route which is undergoing electrification.

And will be rolled out to other busy routes in the Central Belt by March 2019.
