Two Youngsters Charged With Broadford Works Fire

Published 29th May 2015

Two teenagers have been charged over a fire at the Broadford Works earlier this month.

A 12-year-old and 16-year-old have been reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit over the blaze on the 18th of May.

The derelict factory has sat empty for over 10 years and it a well known site for vandals - with three fires breaking out there in the last two weeks.

On the 18th of May, two appliances carrying 12 firefighters were called to the fire at around 7.35pm.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the fire was extinguished at around 8.10pm.

A spokeswoman said inquiries are ongoing in relation to the two other fires at Broadford Works, on Saturday and on Monday.

It comes as Aberdeen City Council say they are prepared to take action over Broadford Works after the planning committee agreed enforcement notices should be served.

Members agreed to delegate authority to the head of planning, in consultation with the planning and finance conveners, to serve notices under the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997.

A report will go to full council following inspection of the site.
