Officers have named the two men killed when a tugboat capsized in the River Clyde at Greenock last Friday.

George Taft (65) from Greenock and Ian Catterson (73) from Millport were both on board the vessel.

They had been assisting a cruise ship off Custom House Quay in the town when the accident happened around 3.30pm.

Their bodies were recovered on Saturday around 1.40pm.

It's understood the tugboat has now been recovered by emergency teams.

Chief Inspector Damian Kane, Greenock Area Commander, said: “Our thoughts are with George and Ian’s families and friends and I’d request their privacy at this difficult time.

“As our enquiries continue there will be an increased police presence in the area. I thank the local community for their support and understanding.”
