Two council workers rescued from River Dee after getting into difficulty

Two Aberdeenshire Council workers have been rescued from the River Dee after getting into difficulty in the water earlier.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) raced to the scene at Potarch Bridge shortly before midday after the road workers became cut-off by rising river levels while clearing flood debris.

An Aberdeenshire spokesperson told Northsound News:

“Earlier today, a team of roads workers were clearing flood debris from below Potarch Bridge when two members became cut-off by rising river levels.

"Emergency services responded quickly to the incident and were able to safely remove the men. They have been checked over by paramedics and are in good health. An internal investigation has been launched into the incident.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson commented:

"We were alerted at 11:41am on Wednesday, 4 January to reports of persons in difficulty at Potarch Bridge, Aberdeenshire. "Operations Control mobilised three appliances and two water rescue teams to assist two male casualties.

"Both were handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left shortly after.”
