Two-car smash on Oldmeldrum Road causes huge traffic disruption

Multiple emergency crews are on the scene after a two-car smash that’s caused huge travel disruption in the north-east.

A nine-mile section of the A947 Oldmeldrum road is closed between Whiterashes and Newmacher leading to major diversions in the area and for drivers getting in and out of Aberdeen.

Fire crews, ambulance services and the police are working hard to resolve the incident – it’s unclear yet the extent of any injuries.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area of they can.

A Police statement reads: “The following road closures are in place:

“For vehicles travelling north/west from Aberdeen, the road is closed on the A947 at Newmacher at its junction with the B979.

“For vehicles travelling south/east from Oldmeldrum, the road is closed on the A947 just south of Whiterashes at its junction with the B993.

“Emergency services are in attendance. Diversions are in place.”
