Torry Odour Investigation Extended

An investigation into the cause of a foul smell being caused by a sewage treatment plant in Torry has been extended.

Since 2001, residents have been complaining of a foul smell coming from the £63 million Nigg Wastw Water Treatment Works.

In January, Scottish Water drafted in Professor Robert Jackson to establish the cause.

Sor far it has been discovered that seawater has been entering at points in the sewage network, and that smells had come from a tanker discharging liquid sludge waste in the open air.

But the full extent of the problem has not been solved, causing Scottish Water to extend the investigation.

A Scottish Water spokesman said:

“Professor Robert Jackson’s contract has been extended until October in line with the wishes of our local stakeholder group.

“Once the final report is received, Scottish Water and other agencies will review the recommended actions in the report and continue to meet with local stakeholders to keep them appraised of progress.”
