Three children have been hurt in a serious accident on the A90 near Fraserburgh.

A white Audi A5 and a white Vauxhall Astra hit each other just outside Rathen at 5:50pm yesterday evening.

The 50-year-old male driver of the Audi was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, as was the 27-year-old female driver of the Vauxhall Astra. Three children, who were in the Astra, were also taken to hospital for treatment.

We have since learned two of the children - a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl are also badly hurt, while a 1-year-old boy was treated as a precaution.

The road was closed for 12 hours last night to allow officers to investigate.

Sergeant Scott Deans, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the families involved in this collision, as we continue to establish the exact circumstances.

“We have spoken to several witnessed but would still like to hear from anyone who saw the incident take place, potentially has dashcam footage, or saw either of the vehicles just prior to the crash.

“If you saw a white Audi A5 or a white Vauxhall Astra being driven on the A90 around 5.30pm yesterday, please contact us.”
