The sentencing of an abusive troll who sent threatening messages to a Conservative MP has been postponed after he claimed to have been in close contact with someone who has Covid-19.

Sentencing of a former hospital worker who trolled Politician Ross Thomson has been postponed.

Reece Cuthbert was due at Dundee Sheriff Court this morning (Thursday July 1) but says he had been contact with someone who has Covid.

Cuthbert has admitted sending abusive Facebook messages to the former Aberdeen South MP back in July 2019.

His messages were described as "grossly offensive" and of "indecent, obscene or menacing character."

His lawyer told the court the 26-year-old was unable to attend after being told to self-isolate and take a test.

Evidence was produced showing Cuthbert had taken a test last Friday, but could not produce a result - as he claims it was yet to arrive.

Asked by Cuthbert's lawyer to set his "cynicism and scepticism aside'', Sheriff Gregor Murray agreed to defer sentencing to Friday July 9.
