A number of suspicious shed fires were reported in Aberdeen last night.

Emergency services were alerted to two blazes at around 9.30pm at Whitestripes Drive and Whitestripes Path on Tuesday January 2nd 2018.

During the incident at Whitestripes Path people living in nearby homes had to be evacuated as a precaution.

The shed was completely destroyed with damage also caused to a nearby house and garden fence.

The shed at Whitestripes Drive sustained minimal damage.

PC Rory Saunders said: "Following initial enquiries we are treating these incidents as suspicious and would appeal to anyone with information to come forward. Not only will there be financial implications for the victims involved, but it must have also been extremely frightening for those who were asked to leave their homes while the fire service made the area safe.

"In addition to the incidents last night we were also alerted to a shed on fire at Laurel Avenue on Friday December 29 at around 5pm, and another at Brander Place at around 9.30pm on Sunday December 31. We are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents might be linked and would also appeal to anyone with information about them to get in touch.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the person, or people, responsible for what happened. By being so reckless as to set a fire you have no idea how it will spread and the consequences could be fatal.

"Please contact Police on 101 quoting incident numbers 3137 or 3168 of December 2, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous."
