Stretch of Beach Boulevard to be closed until 2026
The closure, which begins on Sunday, will make way for the new beach park.
A stretch of the Beach Boulevard will be closed until 2026.
The road between Links Road and Esplanade will closed from 6pm on Sunday 29 September.
It will make way for the new beach park and events field which is involved in the City Centre and Beach Masterplan.
Aberdeen City Council said clear signposted diversion routes will be in operation and two-way traffic on the Esplanade past the Queens Links Leisure Park will continue.
This will remain the case until the works are completed in 2026.
Efforts to make way for the new play park started in July and now main contractor Robertson Construction Group are ready to take over.
The local authority said the transformation of the waterfront will be the "biggest redevelopment of the beach area for 35 years".
The £50 million programme was approved by councillors last year and aims to make the beach area a destination, benefitting businesses, residents and visitors.
The beach park will include a play feature, Rope Factory, which was developed through workshops with local school children and young people and was inspired by the city’s rope-making heritage.
The events field will have an amphitheatre and will be able to host festivals, larger concerts, and gatherings.
