Eight fire crews tackle blaze at disused Stoneywood paper mill

Residents in the Stoneywood area are being asked to keep windows closed.

Fire crews have been battling a blaze at a disused paper mill in Aberdeen as huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing over the area.

Eight appliances, including a height appliance, were sent to the scene on Stoneywood Terrace shortly before 9am on Monday 12 August.

Stoneywood Papermill in Bucksburn has been abandoned since it went into administration in September 2022.

No one has been injured and crews currently remain on scene working to contain the fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.53am on Monday, 12 August to reports of a building fire on Stoneywood Terrace in Aberdeen.

"Operations Control mobilised eight fire engines and a height appliance to the scene.

"There are no casualties, and crews remain in attendance."

Residents in the area have been advised by Police to keep their windows closed as a precaution.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "As a precaution, local residents are asked to close their windows and doors due to smoke while the fire service deal with the incident."
