Stephen Flynn MP: The Prime Minister and Chancellor "must immediately resign"
Boris Johnson is the first serving PM to be sanctioned for breaking the law
Stephen Flynn, MP for Aberdeen South, has called on Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to "immediately resign" following news that they will be fined for breaching Covid restrictions during lockdown.
The Metropolitan Police Service said that at least 30 more fines were issued over the partygate saga, with a spokesman for Number 10 confirming that both Johnson and Sunak will be among the recipients.
"It's now confirmed the chancellor lied to Parliament and he lied to the public, the Prime Minister lied to Parliament and he lied to the public when all of us were sat at home adhering to COVID rules", said Flynn.
"We weren't able to see our friends, our friends, our family, our loved ones. We weren't able to attend funerals or events and we aren't able to go around our daily lives in any way shape or form."
"One rule for them and another for the rest of us"
Both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor had previously denied any allegations that they attended any parties during lockdown.
However, both are now being fined for a gathering that took place in Number 10 on June 19th 2020, lasting an hour.
"The Chancellor and the Prime Minister, the highest levels of government in the United Kingdom, were breaking the rules they were doing as the pleased - it's one rule for them and and another for the rest of us", added Flynn.
"Both of them are simply unfit to hold the positions that they are in and they must immediately resign.
"If they are unwilling to resign, then Parliament must force a vote of no confidence."
