Standards at Aberdeen care home strongly criticized
Hamewith Lodge rated "weak" in all areas
In May, the Care Inspectorate made an unannounced visit to Hamewith Lodge in Northfield - and found many shortcomings.
Many people spent periods without engagement, which led to loneliness, reduced stimulation and missed opportunities to support their wellbeing. Medication was not always managed safely, placing people at risk of harm and undermining trust in their care.
Personal plans and daily records were sometimes inaccurate or out of date, which could compromise people's safety and wellbeing and some were left unwashed and in stained clothing - which was not always their own. A significant safety risk was discovered with a utility room storing chemical products found unlocked.
Management were given a Service Improvement Plan.
Residents' wellbeing "a top priority"
The Care home owners said : "The wellbeing of our residents is always our top priority, and we take the feedback from the Care Inspectorate very seriously.
Since the inspection, we have taken swift action guided by a detailed improvement plan, including strengthening infection control measures, improving medication management and reviewing staffing and dependency tools, all while a new wellbeing programme is being developed with the direct involvement of our residents.
We are firmly committed to delivering the high standard of person-centred care our residents and their families rightly expect and deserve, and we look forward to welcoming the Care Inspectorate back in the near future so we can demonstrate the improvements we are making".
