The North of Scotland is set to be hit with snow and ice on Friday and Saturday causing more Christmas travel chaos.

A yellow warning has been issued for Grampian, the Highlands and Orkney starting on Friday at 9pm lasting until midday on Saturday.

Around 2-5cm of snow is expected to fall on lower ground with a possibility of 10-15cm on higher ground.

Snowfall will eventually turn into rain which could cause icy conditions on higher ground.

Some roads and railways are also likely to be affected with longer journey times.

It comes as Storm Pia is already causing travel disruption across the country with trains up and down the region cancelled.

The Inverness to Inverurie line is currently closed whilst Network Rail carry out inspections for fallen trees.

Speed restrictions are in place elsewhere.

A handful of flights at Aberdeen Airport have also been cancelled.
