Second man dies after scaffolding fall in Peterhead

A 77-year-old man has died in hospital, after another 77-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene last week.

A second 77-year-old man has died, after the two of them fell from scaffolding in Peterhead last week.

The first man, named locally as George Forbes, died at the scene after the incident on Merchant Street around 3pm last Wednesday (August 18th).

But the second man, named locally as Alistair Buchan, died in hospital yesterday, after being transported there for treatment.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A second 77-year-old man has died after falling from scaffolding on Merchant Street, Peterhead around 3pm on Wednesday, 18 August, 2021.

“He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and died on Monday, 23 August.

“A 77-year-old man was also pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“A full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
