The search for a 23-year-old man who went overboard a vessel in the North Sea has been stood down with no one found.

The alarm was raised at around 8.15am on Thursday 15 August, about 35 miles northeast of Fraserburgh.

An HM Coastguard rescue helicopter, a fixed wing coastguard aircraft, RNLI Fraserburgh and Peterhead lifeboats as well as nearby vessels were called to assist in the search.

However, despite their efforts the search was stood down at 8.30pm last night with the man remaining missing.

The police have been made aware and informed the man's next of kin.

“A search and rescue operation was carried out by HM Coastguard but the man remains missing. His next of kin are aware.

“Police enquiries remain ongoing but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "The search for a person who went overboard from a vessel in the North Sea has been terminated with no one found."
