Leading Scottish actor Alan Cumming's backing a crowdfunder to arm community frontline medical staff with appropriate PPE.

Masks for Scotland has been set up by a Tayside mother and daughter.

It's after their loved ones who work on the frontline told them they're not safe at work..

Joanna Vanderham said: "I know someone who work's in ICU, I know three GPs. We're hearing every day that they are not being provided with the right masks and gowns.

"This fundraiser will contribute to the effort of getting them the right PPE."

Mum Jill Belch, a professor at Dundee University said: "I've got colleagues and friends who are all in the frontline, and I really want them to be protected.

"Not just because I want them to say safe, but their patients and their family and friends.

"We want to be able to cascade down into not only ICU's, but into the community, our ambulance workers and our GPs, so nothing will go to waste."

Dame Ann Gloag is among those who have made early donations to the appeal and is calling on others to support it if they are able.

She said: “As a former NHS nurse I can only imagine the horror of trying to do your job without the proper protective equipment during this pandemic.

"If anyone can help, I urge them to do so as these are unprecedented times for our NHS.”
