One 14 year old girl from the Buckie area has died and another is fighting for her life following a car crash.

It happened at 10.38pm on Wednesday 26 October 2016 on the B9016 Keith to Buckie road near Rye Riggs, Aultmore.

Her family have been informed.

The accident involved a black Vauxhall Corsa motor car driven by a 17 year old boy and a grey Nissan Terrano motor car driven by 42 year old man. Both these males suffered minor injuries.

There were four girls in the black Vauxhall Corsa including the 14 year old who died. The other three were aged 14, 16 and 17. All were taken to Dr Gray's Hospital by ambulance.

The other 14 year old has life threatening injuries and will be transferred to Glasgow by Air Ambulance.

The older girls have serious injuries but are stable.

Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock said, "My thoughts, and that of my officers, are very much with the family and friends of the 14 year old girl who sadly died in this tragic collision.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the crash or who may have seen either vehicle shortly beforehand and who hasn't yet spoken with Police to do so as a matter of urgency to help us piece together exactly what happened."

Anyone with information who hasn't yet come forward should call Police Scotland on 101.
