Sister of man murdered by recently released prisoner in Aberdeen meets with Justice Secretary
Alan Geddes was stabbed more than 40 times by Stuart Quinn in 2019
The sister of a man who was brutally murdered by a recently released prisoner has finally met with the Justice Secretary to discuss changes to the system.
Samaritan Alan Geddes allowed Stuart Quinn into his home following a night out in 2019.
Quinn, who was released from prison on the same day, killed Alan that night.
Alan's sister, Sandra Geddes, has been pushing for change to the system since his death and finally met with Angela Constance, more than three years since her brothers death.
An 'extremely emotional journey'
"The meeting was very productive. It's taken a long time to get to this meeting, but I think sometimes there's everything's meant to be", said Sandra.
"They're going to look at a completely new through-care system.
"It's going to take a fair bit of work but the good news is that the government are prepared to take that on.
"My brothers attacker had mental health issues when he took drugs, so there needs to be new protocols put in place so that prisoners like Quinn can be held and given treatment when they are released, so they're not just released into society and allowed to do their own thing.
"It's been a long three and a half years. It's been an extremely emotional journey.
"Every time I look at his (Alan's) little boy and I have to tell the story over and over again and I think of my brother and all that he lost, and all that little boy has lost by not having his Daddy.
"But I do feel that we're getting somewhere finally and that we're getting results at the end of it."
