How Safe Are Your Kids Online?

Safer Internet Day 2015 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 10th February with the slogan 'Let's create a better internet together'.

A mum from Kilmarnock is warning parents to check what their kids are up to online. It's after Natalie McCall's 9 year old daughter was playing a girl's game called Moviestarplanet - when she started getting messages from people claiming to be boys - asking the youngster to go into private chat rooms and if she'd be their girlfriend. She's warning parents as part of Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world. Moviestarplanet say they have a filtering system in place that alert trained human moderators regarding potential grooming activity - with certain terms and words triggering this system. They say they work closely with CEOP to exchange information.
