Police Scotland is appealing for information following the attempted theft of an ATM in Alford.
The discovery was made early this morning at the Co-op on Mart Road.
The would-be robbers left empty handed but the machine has been damaged.
Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson said: "I would appeal for any members of the public who saw or heard anything suspicious through the night in the area to contact Police as soon as possible on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous."
