Rainbow colours beamed onto Marischal College to thank key workers
Aberdeen City Council introduced their new lighting system, which will be used to spotlight charities going forward, by shining rainbow colours onto the iconic Aberdeen building.
Rainbow colours have been beamed onto the front wall of Marischal College as a thank you to key workers in Aberdeen.
The display is an example of new exterior lighting on Aberdeen City Council's headquarters, which can change colours at the touch of a button.
This new system will be used between sunset and midnight and 5am and sunrise each day. The rainbow colours will remain until Saturday, a default of white lights will be used from then on - unless a particular colour is used in support of a charity or other event.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “Key workers all over the city have been hard-working and dedicated since the start of coronavirus, often putting their own lives at risk to help our communities.
“We want to thank them for their efforts and it is only fitting that the first display of the new lighting system on our beautiful baronial Marischal College building recognises them using the rainbow which was such a feature during lockdown.
“It’s great that we’ll be able to light up Marischal College again as it’s a popular feature with residents, and it’s fantastic when we can highlight the work of charities and other good causes.
