Probe starts after crane damages on North Sea oil platform
The incident occurred on CNR International's Murchison platform early on Wednesday.
An investigation has been launched into damage to a crane on a North Sea oil platform.
The incident occurred on CNR International's Murchison platform early on Wednesday.
The crane was lifting tubulars when it sustained "significant damage'' to the boom.
CNR said there were no injuries to any of the 102 crew as a result of the accident and there were no plans to evacuate the rig.
A CNR spokeswoman said: “An investigation team, led by a member of CNR senior management, has been mobilised and Health and Safety Executive has been notified.
“The cause of the incident is still being established, however as a precaution all crane operations on the platform have been suspended.
“Safety is a core value and CNR takes all incidents of this nature very seriously.''
The platform lies about 280 nautical miles north of Aberdeen.
