Eight flat blocks in the city were recently A-listed, and there are worries it could lead to troubles making repairs.

Three Aberdeen politicians are to meet with Alex Paterson, Chief Executive of Historic Environment Scotland, today (27th January) to demand a re-think on the 8 multi-storey blocks A-listed last week.

The decision to designate special status to the buildings sparked fury amongst public and politicians alike as concerns grew that future repair and energy efficiency work could be put at risk.

The SNP politicians, Kevin Stewart MSP, Stephen Flynn MP and Kirsty Blackman MP, are set to argue for the decision to be reversed.

This follows Mr Stewart writing to Historic Environment Scotland as well as Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture, calling for a reversal on what he described as a ‘ludicrous decision’.

Similarly, Mr Flynn launched a petition to see the Historic Environment Scotland decision changed.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Aberdeen Central MSP, Mr Stewart said:

“I’ve been absolutely clear that this ludicrous decision by Historic Environment Scotland should be reversed because quite simply, they’ve failed to take account of people who live in these buildings.

“It is well known that many A-listed buildings are notoriously difficult to improve and repair and in my opinion this ill-conceived idea risks future energy efficiency measures and district heating installation in these blocks.

“Make no mistake, we will be leaving Historic Environment Scotland in no uncertain terms about what this decision means to the people who actually live in these buildings – they must change course on this.”
