Police warn Mastrick residents to remain vigilant following rogue trader reports
Officers are recommending that people do not deal with cold-callers
Police in Aberdeen are encouraging residents to remain vigilant after reports of rogue trader activity in the Mastrick area.
It comes after three males with Irish accents attended an address in Mastrick in an open back white commercial vehicle and coerced a woman in her 60’s to have work done on her driveway.
The men carried then carried out sub-standard work at an inflated price.
North East Division Crime Reduction Officer Constable Mark Irvine said:
"Rogue Traders usually cold-call, offering to make repairs or carry out work on your house, garden or driveway. In reality they charge inflated prices for shoddy or completely unnecessary work. We do not recommend dealing with cold-callers for property maintenance and repairs to your home and garden.’
‘Be on your guard if someone turns up unexpectedly. Ask yourself if your premises or garden really require work to be carried out and remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Be vigilant for vulnerable neighbours who may fall foul of these criminals. Don’t feel pressurised into agreeing immediately to work being carried out and never pay cash up front.’
